WMU Foundation

The WMU Foundation exists to further the cause of Christian missions by securing funds to support WMU and its partners.

Scholarship Funds

I.   Scholarships for Children of Missionaries
(Also called The Margaret Funds)

These funds are endowment funds established to grant scholarships to sons and daughters of home and international missionaries.

Applications shall be submitted to the office of application origin. Representatives of the WMU Executive Office in cooperation with WMUF staff will evaluate applications to present to the WMU Endowment Committee for recommendation to the WMU Executive Board.

A.   Elizabeth Lowndes Award
This scholarship is for college students in their senior year, who have distinguished themselves for high scholastic standing, leadership, personality and character. Up to four $400 awards can be given each year. Nominations should include transcripts and letters of endorsement.

B.   Julia C. Pugh Scholarship
This scholarship is for sons or daughters of international or North American missionaries.

C.   Mattie J. C. Russell Scholarship
This scholarship is for sons or daughters of North American missionaries.

D.   Mary B. Rhodes Medical Scholarship
This scholarship is for medical students who are sons and daughters of international missionaries, who plan to go into international missions. Those majoring in nursing, dentistry, or pharmacy will also be considered.

E.   Margaret Fund Endowment
Grants are made for special scholarships.
Grants may also be made in the form of a $400 check to former Margaret Fund students appointed as regular missionaries or a $200 gift to former students of Baptists mission boards appointed as regular missionaries, missionary associates, missionary journeymen or US-2 missionaries.

II. Higher Education Scholarships
Application is made by October 1. An advisory committee consisting of a representative from WMU Executive Office and WMU Foundation shall recommend to the WMU Endowment Committee the prime candidates for the committee's endorsement and approval of the WMU Executive Board unless otherwise specified.

A.    R. Keith Parks Scholarship Fund
This scholarship provides assistance to women for (a) field work experience as interns or in women's missionary work on the foreign mission field; (b) service in women's missionary work on the foreign mission field. B.   Carolyn Weatherford Scholarship Fund
This scholarship provides assistance to women for (a) field work experience as interns or in women's missionary work in the United States; (b) service in women's missionary work in the United States. C.    Jessica Powell Loftis Scholarship for Acteens (Academic/Events/Training)
This scholarship is to be given to the National Acteens Panelists for the current year; an Acteens leader for WMU training; an Acteens group to participate in an Acteens event or activity; and for assisting Acteens organizations overseas. D.   Harriett S. Levering Scholarship
This scholarship is divided between three international training schools—in Rio, Recife, Brazil, and the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Scholarships are awarded every year to female students at each seminary.

E.   June Whitlow Endowment Fund for WMU Leadership Development
Each year, this endowment is divided two ways—for scholarships to women in churches training for WMU and missions education; and for a student or students at the Christian Women's Leadership Center (CWLC) at Samford University. To visit the CWLC's Web site, click here.

F.   Emma McIver Woody Scholarship
This scholarship is for a female student (or students) at the Baylor School of Social Work.

G.   Dr. Dellanna O'Brien Chair for the School of Social Work at Baylor University
Baylor School of Social Work uses these funds for graduate students who might otherwise fear they cannot afford the cost of graduate education.
