| Second
Century Fund
As WMU concluded its
first 100 years of existence, it had much to celebrate.
In its first century, WMU became the largest Protestant
women's missions organization in the world. During
that time, WMU created missions education programs
for millions of children, youth, and women of
all ages; published literature to support the
missions education programs; and raised money
and fostered awareness of international and domestic
missions through the Lottie Moon Christmas and
Annie Armstrong Easter offerings. In fact, WMU
has been the driving force behind raising over
$2 billion for Baptist missions since 1888.
Today, all of these WMU missions efforts are
still alive and well. Moving into its second century
provided new challenges and opportunities for
WMU. Initiated in 1988, the Second Century Fund
will continue to provide the needed resources
to grow and expand. The Second Century Fund is
a permanent endowment with a portion of the income
allowing WMU to provide annual grant support for
the leadership development of women in missions
around the world. Since 1988, the Second Century
Fund Endowment has awarded over $1 million in
grants.
